Thecus has just announced some new NAS products. The N8810U-G is a rack mount meant for enterprise use so that’s not exactly exciting to me, but it might be to you. What interests me is the N7710-G NAS which is meant for small business but it could be for consumer use and it can house seven hard drives but it’s costly coming in at an MSRP of $1200. Still though, I can dream right? I don’t have that many available drives to even put in the box.
Network attached storage expert Thecus is pleased to announce its newest NAS units, the N7710-G and N8810U-G, which combine performance with a tried and trusted platform for SMB and enterprise users. Powerful hardware, an efficient design, and great software support mean these NAS products offer multiple functions to multiple users, rapidly and flawlessly.
These latest additions to the Thecus line offer significant improvements in performance thanks to powerful Intel® Pentium G850 Dual Core CPUs, and 10GbE technology. 10GbE networking delivers speeds up to 10x faster than regular gigabit connections, ensuring these NAS units will be ready for whatever the future can throw at them.
Along with the 75% faster (but cooler running) processor, newly incorporated multimedia ports (HDMI and VGA), and the inclusion of USB 3.0 ports, the new 7-bay N7710-G and 8-bay N8810U-G also bring the wealth of the Thecus App Center to SMB businesses. With their power and connectivity, both units allow multiple users to enjoy the growing list of over 90 official and third-party applications.
With RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and JBOD available, users can choose their perfect balance between performance and redundancy. Given their ability to host numerous drives, both new products benefit from the balanced strengths of RAID 50, while the N8810U-G also offers the enhanced reliability of RAID 60.
The User Quota feature and iSCSI Thin Provisioning ensure that storage resources are shared efficiently. Both new NAS products also have VMware V5.5 certification, for compatibility with the latest virtualization technologies.
With Acronis True Image, data can be backed up to local and remote media easily and automatically. Data Guard provides another option for local and remote backup to other NAS, and Data Burn offers permanent backup to CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray discs. Meanwhile, McAfee Antivirus keeps watch to safeguard all data passing through the NAS, and Thecus’s AES 256-bit RAID volume encryption protects essential data from theft. To ensure that data is transmitted and stored corruption-free, both units use ECC RAM.
“When a new year begins, managers always feel a revitalized drive to improve upon their company’s past successes,” explained Florence Shih, General Manager of Thecus. “It’s a time when we really want to put our hindsight to best use. So when we decided to develop new NAS for SMB and enterprise users, we knew that they wanted a tried and trusted platform with the performance to empower users’ economic growth for another year. With this in mind, we focused on improving our N7710-G and N8810U-G NAS, especially with regard to their ability to serve multiple functions for multiple users rapidly and flawlessly. No matter what the new year brings, this versatile pair has your business covered.”
The N7710-G and N8810U-G will be available at selected retail stores and distributors in mid-March for the suggested retail prices of USD1,199 and USD1,999 respectively.
