xsense16
In your home there are things you need to have or should have and one of those is a carbon monoxide detector. I’ve got kids and I like to try and keep them safe anyway I can. Carbon Monoxide has no smell so you won’t know it’s there but it can kill you so it’s wise to have a way to detect it. Today for review I’ve got the X-Sense CO03M Battery Powered Carbon Monoxide Detector and it’s something that everyone should have in their home. The detector features a large and bright LCD display so you can monitor levels in your home and it has two ways to mount it. Read on to learn more..

Once you get everything unpacked you’ll find the detector, batteries, user guide and mounting hardware.

The detector is made of plastic as you’d expect and it’s about 6 x 3.3 inches in size and it comes with the battery compartment partially open, it won’t until the batteries are in actually. On the front are three LEDs for power, alarm and fault and under those is the LCD display. Off to the left side are two buttons for test/hush and for checking the peak CO levels. The detector seems well made, the same quality as the other detector I own, it feels solid and it should be fine.

The detector is half circle shaped and it’s about 2.2 inches thick.

The detector has a built-in stand on the back, it just folds out like those types you would find on a picture frame.

The detector can also be mounted on the wall with the included hardware. To do this you remove the whole back plate and mount the plate to the wall and then you attached the detector itself to the plate.

The detector uses two AA batteries which they include for you, they just pop in and then you can close the cover.

The LEDs are yellow for fault, red for alarm and green for power. The power LED actually doesn’t stay lit green it blinks every so often when powered on.

I already have a carbon monoxide detector in my home, upstairs by the bedrooms, but having a second on is a good thing as it’s better to be safe. I’ve never had the alarm go off actually, so I had to figure out how to test the detector. I smoke and cigarette smoke does contain carbon monoxide so I thought I could try that to test it and it worked. During my testing it responded instantly to the smoke from my cigarette and I watched the levels change in real time.

The detector registers the CO levels and it will remember the highest one.

The alarm didn’t actually sound when I was testing it, but that’s how it’s supposed to work. The detector will only sound the alarm when it detects constant levels of carbon monoxide. For example at 30ppm constant it will go off in 120 minutes, but at 300ppm it will go off in under 3 minutes. On the back of the detector is a chart that shows you the levels and the response times of the detector. The back also shows you what the LEDs and the beeps the detector emits stand for, for example one beep and yellow LED means low battery.

Conclusion

The X-Sense CO03M Carbon Monoxide Detector seems fine to me, I’ve got no complaints about it.

As far as the price? Can you put a price on the safety of your family? No you can’t, the price seems where it should be.

The display is nice and bright and large enough to be seen easily.

The alarm should be more than loud enough to be heard anywhere in the house. It’s not overly loud, but when you press the test button it’s certainly audible and a high pitched beeping sound that will get your attention.

In my testing the detector responded instantly and I saw the CO levels raise immediately.

All in all I like the X-Sense CO03M Detector and I feel safer having it installed in my home.

Pros:
+Seems well made
+Bright and large display
+Seems responsive

Cons:
-None that I can find
