Review of DESTEK 3D VR Virtual Reality Headset

destek5
Up for review today I’ve got another VR Headset version of Google Cardboard for your phone from a company called Destek. This headset is much more advanced than the real cardboard versions, but it’s not as good honestly. The headset is made of plastic with a magnetic door to keep your phone secure and it has three elastic straps to hold it in place on your head. The headset sadly doesn’t have any kind of interface on it, no buttons, no magnets no nothing to control the apps so you’ll need something else to do it or not play apps that require it. The Review

Let’s start with a video unboxing:

The packaging is just a brown box with some info on it. Inside you’ll find the headset wrapped in bubble wrap for protection, user guide, cleaning cloth and a bag with nose pads, foam spacer and an NFC chip. The VR headset is also covered in plastic to further protect it.

The headset is made of plastic, it’s fairly lightweight and it has a three section adjustable strap, two for the sides and one that goes across the top of of your head for further support.

On the bottom you’ll see the hinges for the front cover and a rounded indentation for your nose.

destek7

The back is where you look through and it’s very well padded with a foam. The lenses are there to see through but they’re plastic and they look fuzzy.

destek9

The front is where you’ll put your phone, it’s a door that folds down basically and it’s held closed with magnets. Inside it’s padded to protect your phone and there’s a round foam spacer on the inside of the door but you can use the additional one that’s included in the accessory bag if you need it.

I also have the Knox Labs Google cardboard VR set and the Samsung Gear VR, the Destek Headset is about the middle of those in terms of size. The big difference between this is that Knox set has a magnetic switch or button to use within the apps, and the Gear VR has a built-in touchpad but the Destek has nothing at all. I would think at the price it would at least have a magnetic switch like even the most basic Google cardboard does.

I used my Samsung Galaxy S6 with the Destek VR headset and I used my Moga Pro controller to control the apps since there isn’t a button of any interface on the headset.

The magnetic door held my phone in place very well, no complaints there at all but it didn’t seem the phone quite fit in it. It did, and I centered it as I was supposed to, but it just didn’t look right.

The lenses are not the greatest, they’re fuzzy and they have circular lines in them almost as if they weren’t finished correctly and this makes things blurry and it’s just not a pleasant experience really.

Yes the headset does work for VR with my phone but honestly the Knox Labs cardboard set haws a nicer picture of view through the lenses.

Conclusion

The Destek VR Headset isn’t the best choice in my opinion if you want a VR headset but it’s not bad, it’s just missing a major component that makes it useful, the button or magnetic switch to use in your apps.

The headset is well made and it’s comfortable to wear for long periods as long as you attach the padded nose piece.

I don’t know, this wouldn’t be my first choice for a VR headset really as it’s missing the button or switch.

Pros:
+Lightweight
+Well made overall
+Comfortable

Cons:
-No magnet or buttons
-Lenses are fuzzy
-A bit expensive for what it is
