For today’s review I enlisted the help of my teenage daughter, as we will be looking at the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s. My daughter like most kids these days are on their smart phones every waking moment. This means that battery life on their devices is always being taxed.

Tylt has created a dual functioning case – the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s, which features a slim inner case that slides into the battery sleeve. While most iPhone 6/6s battery cases sport an 1800 mAh battery, Tylt has gone with a 3200 mAh battery behemoth. This powerhouse charges an iPhone 6/6S to 65% in about an hour. This capability allows the bulkier power case to be put on and taken off as needed.

 

Unboxing

 

The ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s arrives in a clear plastic package with a picture of the case on a front cover flap, which opens out to reveal some of its features. On the bottom right corner is the ‘Made for iPhone’ logo, which indicates this an Apple officially supported accessory. Underneath the flap we see the case. The back of the box has a full list of features in six different languages.

 

 

Opening the box we find the power sleeve, the dual layer inner protective case, micro USB charging sync cable, and user guide.

 

The ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s is comprised of two components – a protective inner case and the battery containing Power Sleeve.

 

 

Tylt offers the ENERGI in only one color – black. The inner case functions like a low profile iPhone 6/6s case. It’s design is nothing fancy except for a Tylt logo seen on the back of the case. It is composed of black PTU with the standard openings for the camera, mute switch, headphone and Lightning connector.

The Power Sleeve is a larger unit with rails on the inside of the case and a Lightning connector at the inner base. The bottom of the case has two speaker channels for preventing the audio from being impacted by the case. At the bottom of the case are opening for headphones and a micro-USB connector. On the back of the Power Sleeve is another Tylt logo along with a power button and four LEDs. Each LED represents up to 25% capacity, while a single blinking LED means less than 2% capacity remaining.

 

 

 

To use the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s as a battery pack – slide the inner case down onto the Power Sleeve. The rails on the side of the sleeve will guide the phone down onto the Lightning connector inside the Power Sleeve.

The Review

 

The case arrives pre-charged so it is ready for use from the moment you remove it from the package. To start using the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s simply insert your iPhone 6 into the inner protective case. Next slide the case enclosed iPhone 6/6s onto the power sleeve making sure that the lightning connector plugs into the phone.

 

 

To start charging one’s iPhone simply press and hold the power button on the back of the case for one second. Charging can be stopped by pressing the same power button for two seconds or by removing the phone from the power sleeve.

 

The ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s is charged using the included Micro USB cable that connects to the case and to either an AC plug or a PC/Laptop/Mac. While using a 2-amp power supply will provide faster charging results. If the iPhone 6/6s is attached to the case while charging via the Micro USB connector then both the phone and case will charge simultaneously. The ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s will prioritize that iPhone charges first. You can even sync your iPhone 6/6s through the ENERGI Sliding Power Case when connected directly to the computer.

The inner case has an elevated front bezel to protect the iPhone 6/6s screen. Button covers protect the power and volume controls while the bottom has open access for headphones, Lightning connector and the speaker. On the back is an opening for the iPhone camera.

 

 

 

Once the inner case is inserted into the Power Sleeve the iPhone 6/6s gains considerable bulk as a consequence of increased battery life. The inner case sits flush with the battery component and is mostly exposed on the upper part of the ENERGI Sliding Power Case. At the bottom of the Power Case we find two speaker grills.

 

 

 

 

Sliding the inner case out of the Power Case is slightly trickier as you need to angle the inner cap outward before pulling it up. The headphone jack opening at the bottom of the Power Case can accommodate the Apple earbud jack because they have a straight input. However an angled connector will require an extender, which is not provided, but Tylt does provide an email and contact phone number for obtaining one.

Since the native battery life for the iPhone 6 is 1810 mAh and the iPhone 6s is 1715 mAh, the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s will provide plenty of charge for either one of these Apple phones. In fact my daughter who usually makes my wife or myself carry 2-3 chargers if we are out for the day was able to last an entire evening trip to and from the city using just the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s.

The ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s was able to recharge a drained iPhone 6 in about two hours. Tylt designed the case to stop charging once it hit 100%. Afterwards we were about to obtain another 30% of charge from a fully drained iPhone 6 battery. Recharging the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s using an iPad Air adapter got the case fully juiced at around 2 ½ to 3 hours.

 

Conclusion

 

Overall my daughter was quite impressed with the ENERGI Sliding Power Case for iPhone 6/6s ability to provide additional power to her iPhone 6. Although she uses a Speck case normally, she did not have any issues using the inner case of the ENERGI. Her main issue was that the case was only available in black. The main issue I found was the headphone jack recess situation, which impeded the use of several of my headphones. Although lately I have been using the Bluetooth Jaybird BlueBuds X to avoid dealing with the extra wire of regular headphones.

Aesthetically is unassuming whether using the Power Case or just the inner sleeve. Its main draw is the 3200 mAh battery case making it a must have for any power iPhone 6/6s user. This case will get you through the most active day with some juice to spare.
