I very much enjoy my 3D printer, it’s a great hobby that can get expensive especially if you really get into it. I don’t just make or print things on my printer I use Meshmixer and design then as well to print so you need more tools for that like a good set of calipers. My 3D printer is the MP Select Mini from Monoprice and it has manual bed leveling which mean I have to do it myself and I want to do it right so that requires a set of feeler gauges. Up for review today I’ve got a set of calipers from a company called Green Toolz and they’re very nice made of stainless steel and I found that they’re calibrated right out of the box. Green Toolz also included a set of stainless steel feeler gauges for free as a bonus, these two things are what you need for 3D printing and it’s a nice set overall. Read on to learn more…

The Review
Let’s start with a video unboxing and mini review and then move on:
The Green Toolz caliper comes packed with a cardboard slipcover over the plastic case. The is actually nice and sturdy and well made, it should provide good protection for the tool inside. The case secures closed with two latches on the front edge.
When you open the case you’re greeted with a user guide, warranty card, battery, screwdriver to open battery compartment, extra battery, the caliper wrapped in plastic and a feeler gauge also wrapped in plastic.
The calipers are made of stainless steel, all of them, and not just the ruler or measurement parts of it, even the battery case and main section of it is stainless steel, very nice. These calipers seem very well made for sure. I’m not sure I would call them rugged as they are a precision instrument for measuring very small things, but being fully stainless steel is much better than my other pair that is part plastic. When closed they’re about 9.5 inches long and they open up to 15.25 in total length. The battery compartment is next to the LCD display and is secured with two screws that can’t be open with the included screwdriver. The calipers are well made really, they’re cleanly machine or manufactured with no rough edges or imperfections, very nicely made and they look great.
On the back is a metric and standard chart for you for screw thread sizes. In the video I wasn’t sure what it was but now I know, I’ve never had a use for such a thing so how would I know?!
The LCD is nice and large and easy to read with black lettering on a light gray background. The display is about 1.5 x .5 inches in dimensions. Below the display are three buttons for inch/mm, off/on and zero. The calipers will automatically turn on as soon as you start sliding them apart which I think is a neat feature, and they will automatically turn off as well. The inch/mm button is not only for changing the units but for conversion as well.
These calipers let you measure inside, outside and depth and steps and you can measure differentials as well.
Included as a free bonus is a very nice feeler gauge. I recently bought a set of these and these are much nicer really, I’m surprised that a free bonus item is this well made and it’s a perfect addition or partner with the caliper kit. I use the feel gauge to level the bed on my 3d printer
Conclusion
The Green Toolz calipers are very nicely made, I’m truly impressed by them honestly. I bought a pair not long ago to replace a broken pair and they’re just not as good or nice as these are sadly.
The calipers are a very useful tool to have around the house I guess, but they’re really useful for 3D printing when you’re creating your own designs.
The included feeler gauge is great as well, it’s great not only because it’s free but also because they’re nicely made.
The included case is nice as well, it’s sturdy and well made and will offer good protection for the calipers and feeler gauge inside.
All in all I’m happy with this set of calipers.
