I’ve owned a lot of phones over the years, they started out as feature or dumb phones but then I moved to smart phones, Windows Mobile, Windows Phones or Android Phones. They were different operating systems yes and different phones but most of them had one thing in common, I always got an Otterbox case for them when one was available. I recently upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and I had to get an Otterbox for that one of course. I walked out of the AT&T store with the phone and drove over to Best Buy and bought the Otterbox Commuter Series case for it. Otterbox has several different cases available but I like the Commuter series as it offers great, dual layer, protection but yet it’s still thin and doesn’t add too much bulk to the phone. Specifications and Features
The case is available in several different color combinations but not the one I wanted so I ended up with black. I had a white and gray Commuter Series case for my Samsung Galaxy S6 which I wanted again for the S8 but it seems I can’t get that color combination. The case is dual layer protection, something which I love about the Commuter Series cases, it’s an inner rubber case that covers the whole phone and then an outer polycarbonate shell that fits over the rubber case. The dual layers provide great protection from drops and impacts all around the sides of the phone and the back.
The case is just slightly larger than the Galaxy S8 so it doesn’t add a lot of bulk or make the phone much larger really.
The Galaxy S8 has buttons on the right and left sides. The left side is where the volume and Bixby buttons are and then the right just has the power button. The case has button built-in to make them easier to access. The case has openings for the microphone at the top and speaker at the bottom. At the bottom of the phone is also the USB C port and audio port but these are covered with rubber doors to keep out dust and dirt etc. The case has a nice large cutout on the back for the camera, flash and fingerprint sensor so you can easily access it and the camera and flash is not obscured. The case doesn’t come up over the right and left side like you might think it should, this is because of the rounded screen of the S8, but it still protects the screen. The top and bottom of the case do come up over the phone screen just to slightly. You can lie the phone face down on a flat surface and it won’t touch that surface as the case does just slightly protrude higher than the screen.
Conclusion
When it comes to a case for your phone you’ve got plots of choices, there are many, many imitators out there but there’s only one Otterbox.
When it comes to protecting my phone I want the best and that’s an Otterbox in my opinion.
The Commuter Series case offers great protection for the phone and its ports but it doesn’t add a lot of extra bulk like other rugged style cases do.
The case is easy to put install on the phone but it stays on very securely and won’t come off easily.
In my opinion that’s no better case than an Otterbox.
Pros:
+Well made
+Great protection
+Easy access and protection for ports
Cons:
-None
