NOW LIVE: Synology DSM 3.0 beta

Those of you that have one of many Synology Nas boxes might be interested in this, the new DSM 3.0 beta is now available. I’ll be downloading it shortly and maybe I’ll post a bit more about it once I play with it. There’s a ton of improvements in this new version like Mu;lti-Tasking, Android Apps, EXT4 support, ACL support and quite a bit more..

DSM 3.0 is a completely revamped base for the DiskStation Manager network storage OS, providing a multi-tasking ,desktop-like interface that is more like a standard operating system except DSM 3.0 runs completely within a web browser.
Other than the aesthetic overhaul, new features include:

  • Multi-tasking, dynamic-updating UI
  • New Android apps DS cam, DS photo+ and DS audio provide mobile access to multimedia and surveillance cameras. DS audio for Android also has Remote Mode to control a DiskStation with attached USB speakers (I can provide Android screenshots if desired)
  • Updated iPhone app DS photo+ now with video streaming support and improved interface
  • EXT4 File system support
  • Windows ACL Support
  • Compatibility with VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Xen (on supported DiskStations)
  • WebDAV support, IPv6 Integration, enhanced iSCSI features and more
