So I’ve got an Xbox360, but I don’t have an HDTV, I’ve got an older 27" that suits me fine, eventually of course I’ll get one, but for now I’m stuck with the SDTV that I have. Gaming on it with the Xbox360 isn’t bad really, but of course nothing beats HDTV for it’s clarity and detail. I recently reviewed a 22" Envision monitor from Geeks.com and it’s HD ready with DVI and VGA ports, so I was wondering what I had to do to get my Xbox to play on it?
Fortunately a company called Budget Gadgets approached me for product reviews recently and they carry just the answer I needed, a cable that allows me to hook my Xbox up to my 22" monitor via the VGA connection. So today I’ve got a brief review for you of the VGA HD High Definition HDTV AV Cable for Xbox 360 that was provided by Budget Gadgets. I can’t really test it like a piece of hardware or give you screenshots etc, but I can tell you that it works, and it works great and best of all it’s inexpensive. Oh and they provided me with a discount code as well to share with our readers to use for anything on the site!
So continue on …
It was a long way getting here and the plastic box kind of got crushed, so I’ve got a picture of the cardboard insert and the cable itself for you:
The cable is nice and long, coming in at 8 feet, more than enough to reach most places. It seems well made also, it’s got the standard Xbox connection on one end along with VGA and audio connectors on the other.
Specifications:
VGA HD High Definition HDTV AV Cable for Xbox 360
Price: $17.01
The high-definition connection for TVs and computer monitors with VGA inputs
High-definition gaming output of 720P
Progressive-scan DVD playback in 480P
Includes 8-foot-long shielded cable, DB15-S standard VGA connector with video socket to stocker adapter, and audio Y-adapter
As I said I really have no pictures of it in action for you, I mean I guess I could have taken a picture of my Xbox next to my monitor, but that really wouldn’t show you much.
It works and works great, and that’s all there is to it, and at $17.00 it’s well worth it if you need to hook your Xbox up to a monitor. It’ll work with most any monitor that has VGA connection.
Also, it says output of 720p in the specs but the Xbox allowed me to select the resolution of the monitor at 1680×1050 to play games on it, so apparently it works at higher than the specs mention, which is a good thing.
I played Gears of War2 and Left4Dead on my 22" monitor in HD, and it was excellent looking as expected, I had no problems at all hooking it.
The only problem I had hooking it up was that my monitor didn’t have RCA jacks for the audio, it has a 3.5mm jack for input, fortunately I have an adapter, so it worked fine that way. This wasn’t cables fault, just an observation and something to keep in mind.
On to the good part here though, Budget Gadgets provided me with a discount code for our readers, it’ll give you 5% off anything on their site. The code is: KM5OFF2
Conclusion:
The VGA HD High Definition HDTV AV Cable for Xbox 360 from Budget Gadgets does exactly what it’s supposed to do, allows you to hook your Xbox360 up via a VGA connection to most any monitor or TV that has the VGA connection on it.
The cable is nice and long, and the price is inexpensive.
