So it’s Sunday and I’m sitting here getting my oil change, tires rotated etc and I figured I’d bring my netbook along to browse etc. Many Verizon phones come with the Verizon 3G Mobile hotspot feature and I decided to check the speeds while I was sitting here doing nothing.. I went to SpeedTest.net and DslReports and ran both of their speed tests to see what was up with this thing.
Using the Mobile hotspot is easy, just load up the app and turn it on. It comes with a default password which you can change or you could leave it open for everyone to share.
In a few seconds I was up and running really.
First I went to SpeedTest.net and ran their test to check the speed I was getting.
Download speeds are decent, but upload is rather slow really as you can see above.
Next up I went to DSLReports.com and ran their speed test with a server closer to me, New York actually, I’m in Pittsburgh PA right now.
Not much different in the speeds eh?
If I’m using the HotSpot as I am right now, with my netbook, I really don’t care too much about upload speeds honestly. I’m not going to be doing a lot of uploads this way that’s for sure, but that’s just me.
When I uploaded the pictures above it took mere seconds, yes I know they’re small files, but I don’t think people are going to uploading much more than pictures really. At least the average person anyway.
So I’m just throwing this out there for now…
I know other Verizon phones offer the Mobile HotSpot feature, so my question is how are your speeds? Similar, Worse or better?
