LG Electronics Dramatically Expands VUDU on Line-up of 2010 HDTVs and Blu-ray Players

More Blu-ray and HDTV News… This time from LG

LG Electronics, the first company to offer VUDU(TM) on HDTVs and Blu-ray Disc players in 2009, will offer VUDU on all 2010 HDTVs and Blu-ray players with LG’s NetCast Entertainment Access(TM) feature. All told, 32 2010 LG NetCast-enabled models will feature the VUDU service.

With more than 3,000 HD movies on-demand, the VUDU service provides LG customers with access to the world’s largest catalog of on-demand HD movies, including movies in VUDU’s HDX format, the only 1080p streaming video format available to consumers today. VUDU also features Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound delivered through state-of-the-art encoding. VUDU’s catalog is updated each week, offering the hottest new theatrical releases, many the same day they are available on DVD and months before they are available via subscription services.

Through VUDU, LG customers have the option to buy or rent movies on-demand on their LG NetCast HDTVs and Blu-ray players from the comfort of their living room – no subscription, no PC and no other equipment required*. Of special significance for VUDU aficionados in the 2010 lineup is the new LG BD590, the first Network Blu-ray Disc player with a built-in 250GB hard drive to store high-def movies purchased from the VUDU service.

VUDU on LG LCD and plasma HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc players and home theater systems receives frequent updates and new features. Thanks to VUDU’s streaming user interface, they are delivered automatically and invisibly to the consumer. In the last quarter of 2009, VUDU added critics’ reviews from popular movie site Rotten Tomatoes as well as detailed movie information from web encyclopedia Wikipedia, all available directly in the VUDU interface to all LG customers. VUDU also added the ability to watch popular theatrical trailers in VUDU’s stunning 1080p HDX format.

"When we launched VUDU, it was already a leader in on-demand HD entertainment. VUDU continues to extend its lead by offering exciting new features to consumers every few weeks," said Peter Reiner, senior vice president, marketing, LG Electronics USA. "By expanding VUDU to our entire line-up of NetCast products in 2010, consumers can watch Hollywood’s latest releases on-demand in stunning 1080p on any of our new connected devices."

"LG showed great technical leadership in being the first company to launch televisions and Blu-ray players with VUDU," said Alain Rossmann, CEO of VUDU. "LG continues to demonstrate their innovation and expertise in the area of Internet-connected televisions and Blu-ray players. We value their support as they add VUDU to over 32 new products in 2010."

VUDU will come pre-installed as a free application available to the owners of any LG NetCast products. LG customers who connect their television or Blu-ray player to the Internet will be able to enjoy the VUDU service directly without additional equipment.
