Conclusion
The Lumen Smart Bulb TL800 is a light with lots of potential. Unlike the Phillips version the Lumen Smart Bulb uses Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi and the need for a hub. This makes for quick setup and use, although Bluetooth can be finicky and only one Bluetooth device can take control of the Lumen Smart Bulb TL800 at one time.
The free Lumen app is still a work in progress; the controls are mostly well designed although the music feature is in need of a serious overhaul. The Android version currently has fewer features than the iOS one. Another missing feature as of the writing of this review is the lack of an off timer.
Priced at $69 retail it is in line with the Philips model yet does not require any other equipment to get started. The wow factor of controlling the Lumen Smart Bulb TL800 remotely will end pretty quickly, but the fun will continue as the bulb offers loads of cool features.
Pros:
+Easy to setup
+Low energy consumption
+Bright and vibrant colors
+Does not require additional hubs
Cons:
-Android app needs to be updated
-Music controls needs overhaul
-Needs timer feature
-Limited to Bluetooth 4.0 enabled devices
