Conclusion
When a company known for storage such as Western Digital decides to enter the networking market, one can be a little hesitant not knowing what kind of experience you will get with the product. I am happy to report with the My Net AC1300 that Western Digital has created a well-designed router.
The My Net AC1300 is incredibly simple and intuitive to setup that even the most computer phobic person should be able to create a secure wireless network in minutes. The web interface has each section subdivided as to keep the user from being overwhelmed with settings.
There are plenty of security features along with the ability to attach external USB drives to create a media hub/network storage. While Western Digital hasn’t created anything revolutionary as most its features can be found on other high-end routers it does offer FasTrack their own QOS, which prioritizes traffic for movies, video chat, and online games. This prevents sacrificing network speeds elsewhere.
The My Net AC1300 is competitively priced with other 802.11ac routers. Any concerns about the Western Digital brand for a router should be eliminated, as this is a solid router with plenty of features making it a worthwhile investment.
Pros:
+Simple setup
+WPS enabled
+Preset QoS – FasTrack
+Low profile
+Dual Band
Cons:
-Plastic construction
-Out of the box FasTrack can cause decreased network performance
-Network attached drive speeds pedestrian
