How has Technology Changed our Lives?

We hear every day about the way that technology has revolutionized our lives, and about the way that the digital revolution has not even started yet, but how does it actually impact us on a day to day basis? We have smartphones, tablets, the cloud, messaging apps, video streaming, and more, but these are the obvious things. What about the things we probably don’t even consider? The things that have snuck up on us and that have transitioned to the digital world without us really paying much attention? From social media, let us round up a few of the less obvious ways that technology has revolutionized our lives.

1. The way we make payments

How do you get paid every month? I bet it isn’t with a cheque anymore! Nowadays everyone banks online, transfers are made at the click of a button through online banking, and numerous payment applications have popped up such as Payoneer and PayPal which allow us to transfer money in numerous currencies, across the world, pretty much instantly. This shift was a gradual one and I can imagine that in 10-20 years, paper and coin money will pretty much become completely obsolete.

1. The way we spend our downtime

A good example of this is once upon a time, we used to have to get dressed up, get in the car and drive out to the nearest casino to play a game of poker, spin the roulette wheel, or have a go on the slots machines. Those days are now over (to an extent) and online gaming and casinos have become one of the fastest growing, tech based industries in the world. Whether you want to play poker on your phone, blackjack on your tablet, or lotto on your laptop, here you can find the best online casino games to play at, with just a few swipes of your finger.

1. The way we communicate

This isn’t just about having a phone in your pocket at all times or being able to log into Skype on your laptop- stop and think for a moment, when was the last time that you sent a text message? How much has your phone bill reduced since the introduction of apps like Viber, Facebook Messenger, and Whatsapp? These new ways of communicating purely via the internet have snuck into our daily life without us even realizing!

2. The way we shop.

It is not just about ordering things online or through a website, today it is now as easy as using your smartphone camera to scan a barcode and create a shopping list. Then with a few swipes you can arrange for your items to be delivered to you at home, at a time convenient to you. No more making lists or wasting time on supermarket websites- just scan, save, and send.

There are many more examples out there of how technology has sneaked up on us and transformed our lives and the way we do things. If you had told me 10 years ago that I would be doing even one or two of these things, I would say that you are mad. Who knows what the future holds!
