With the introduction of the Apple Watch a new ecosystem of accessories has hit the market. While the accessory options at this point in time are fairly limited today we will look at an item that most Apple Watch owners should find interesting. Griffin Technology the company well known for their mobile accessories have released Griffin Watch stand. It boasts a simple design while offering a stylish appearance.

This pedestal prominently displays the Apple Watch when not being one on one’s nightstand, tabletop or desktop. In addition it functions as a charging stand as it houses the Apple provided Mag Safe charging cable.

Inside the pedestal is a cord management system, which allows an excess cord to be safely hidden away inside the WatchStand. The bottom of the WatchStand has a molded base that allows the iPhone to be displayed as well.

Unboxing

 

The WatchStand arrives in a cardboard box within an image of the Apple Watch being charged on the front with a list of features found on the back for the box. Inside the package we find the pedestal and base, along with an instruction manual add warranty card. It does not include the Mag Safe charging cable so you will have to use the one that came with the Apple Watch.

 

  

 

 

The unit measures 7.87″ x 5.5″ x 3.15″ and weighs18 ounces. It is composed of a matte black plastic pedestal with a weighted base.

 

The top of the pedestal has the Griffin logo covering an opening for the Mag Safe charging connector. Inside the pedestal is a core that contains a rubberized cable management system. On the base is another Griffin logo along with an elevated lip for resting an iPhone.

  

 

 

At the bottom of the base we see four rubberized feet with an opening in the center, which allows the end of the MagSafe cable to pass through.

The Review

 

To use the WatchStand you will need to feed the magnetic charging cable through the top post opening that is covered by the Griffin logo. Next lay the mag safe connector flat into the top recess of the pedestal. To remove the magnetic charging cable simply push the flat charging connector from the underneath via the back opening on the post.

 

The remaining cable is fed through the stand and any excess cable can be wrapped around the WatchStand’s removable core.

 

 

There is an included spacer to maximize the contact between the Apple Watch mag safe cable for use with the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition versions. According to Griffin this spacer is not intended to be used with the white plastic magnetic charging cable that ships with the Apple Watch Sport

Now the end of the cable can be passed through the bottom of the base to be plugged into the Apple Watch AC adapter. The post can be oriented in one of four viewing angles.

 

 

To use the WatchStand, simply place the Apple Watch onto the mag safe connector. You can orient the watch in either horizontal or vertical positions.

  

 

Underneath the Apple Watch one can rest their iPhone on the base of the stand.

 

Aesthetically the Griifin WatchStand has a modern, elegant design which pairs well with the Apple Watch. The stand is solidly constructed with a nicely weighted base.

The WatchStand can accommodate both semi flexible and fully flexible watchbands.

The inner cable management system was a handy feature and the rubberized core made it simple enough to keep any excess charging cable discreetly out of the way.

One feature I would like to see added is the ability to run an iPhone charging cable along the bottom of the WatchStand or maybe to create an iPhone dock at the base.

 

Conclusion

 

The Griffin WatchStand is a well-designed accessory can easily reside on one’s desk, nightstand or work area. Its simple yet elegant appearance allows the Apple Watch to be charged as well as displaying the iPhone when not in use. It can present the Apple Watch in either vertical or horizontal orientations.

Priced at $29.99 it is an affordable way to keep your Apple Watch charged while proudly displaying it on your desk or nightstand.
