Today up for review is the Ringke Fusion DIY designed by Rearth. This particular case is designed for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the color, or lack thereof is clear. This is offered in several different colors on their website and other fine retailers online: black, champagne, deep blue, mint and crystal clear. I feel like I am a little at a loss for words to begin because this is such a simple case that it does not take much to describe it. And simple can be a good thing, and in this case (get it) it is. It’s an all-around good solid case for those (me being one) who are looking for a thin, no frills case to protect your Galaxy S5.

 

Unboxing

 

There is little to the packaging for this case and it’s very eco-friendly. The bag itself is completely biodegradable and easy to open. The bag can be torn at the top or opened at the bottom. I chose to open it from the bottom, you…. well you sir or madam can open it any way you like.

 

Inside the bag you will find the clear case and a DIY card.

 

 

What is a DIY card you ask? Well I am glad you asked. There is a nice feature to this case that you can cut out your own pictures from where ever you may have or find them and use them as backgrounds for the back of your phone.

It’s a great idea, especially if you always want to change your case, but aren’t interested in buying a new one. This way, you can always change the design of it without having to shell out money to buy a new case.

 

 

 

The case itself is pretty simple, it has a clear hard backing and the sides are made of a durable silicone that is malleable so you can take your phone in and out of it easily.

Testing and Usage

 

The phone slides easily into the case and fits very well. The case itself has the standard cutouts at the tops and bottom for the charging port, microphone, infrared beam and headphone jack.

 

On the left and right are also the toggle switches for the volume and power buttons. These buttons are covered by the case silicone, but they are easy to press and toggle the up and down and screen power on and off respectively.

 

 

On the back of the case you will also find the standard cutouts for the camera, heart rate monitor and at the bottom left a cutout for the speaker. What is real nice about this case is that the silicone is thick enough so that it covers the thickness of the camera and when placed on a hard surface it will not scratch the camera lens.

 

There are also 4, 0.7 mm rear guards on the edge of the case to help with the cushioning of the case.

 

Around the front the case also covers all sides of the screen and raises the screen off of a hard surface by 1.2 mm. it helps raise the case so it does not scratch on some surfaces.

 

The case back is made of an anti-scratch coated plastic so it remains clean and clear of scratches so the pictures you may put in there are able to be seen clearly.

When you get the case it will have a protective film on the outside and inside of the case. It is easily removable and makes the backing very clear to the eye.

 

 

Another great feature of this case is that it has a cutout on the bottom left (if you are looking at the screen of your phone) to attach a strap to it if you wish. Some of us enjoy this, or even enjoy using a stylus on our phone and this would be a great way to attach it to the phone.

 

 

 

 

Conclusion

 

This case is thin and light weight and offers great overall protection for the phone. The corners have shock absorbing bumpers so if dropped it will help to soften the blow. I like the variety of colors this case comes in.

It’s simple and does not have a lot of frills. Except the ability to add your own pictures in the back of the phone to let you personalize your case. Which is a great idea if you like to personalize your phone inside and out, you can easily do it.

The template is a neat idea, except it’s made of paper and I feel that after a few uses it would most likely become unusable from being messed up with the pen or pencil you use to trace the image. It would be much better if it was made out of plastic. Even a thin piece would hold up longer than paper. I used the template once and it worked well, I don’t know how long it will hold up if you are one who cannot make up your mind.

I really like this case for its simplicity and its thinness. I have always been partial to thin cases that offer protection and so far this has given me both of those things. The toggle switches (on the right and left side of the case) are easy to operate.

The charging port on the S5 has a cover on it and it’s easy to open with this case. The hard plastic backing is anti-scratch coated and will keep whatever picture you put in there clear for others to see.

The Rearth Rinke Fusion is a solid good case, and what you can do with it (constantly personalize it) this case is really worth the money.
