Today for review I’ve got four sets of colored micro LED lights from a company we’ve heard from before, RTGS products. The last product I reviewed from them was a small set powered by two button style batteries, these sets are powered by six AA batteries and they’re over twenty feet long with 60 LEDs on each string. These also feature a timer and a newly designed battery box that is just as waterproof as the LEDs themselves so you can use it all outside in all kinds of weather and not worry about it. The Review
Let’s start out with a video unboxing of all these lights first and then move on from there:
The packaging for the RTGS micro LED lights is a clear plastic box with a label on the front with specs listed for you.
There’s nothing in the packaged except for the battery box and the string of lights.
The battery box actually clamps shut with two flip style locks on the side. The box is waterproof so you can put it all outside in any weather and not worry about it. The box is small and it does have a hook style look on the top for mounting. It’s made of sturdy plastic and it’s about 3.5×2.5×1.5 inches in dimensions.
The power switch is on the top and has three modes, or buttons presses. The first press is the timer, second press is just on, and the third press is off. The timer works on an internal clock of six hours on and 18 hours off, meaning that if you turn it on at 7pm it will stay on for six hours and then turn off, but power back on automatically at 7pm again the next day. The timer is great for an outside holiday lighting display and you won’t have to worry about the weather or having to remember to turn them off.
On the string is 60 individual micro LEDs that are waterproof, you can actually submerge this under water and they’ll work just fine. The string of LEDs is wire, it’s stiff and bendable so you can shape it almost making positioning them easier.
The string of LEDs is 20 feet long with 4 inches between each LED and then there is 20 inches of clear power wire from the LED string to the battery box. In total it’s almost 22 feet long which should cover a lot.
The LEDs are very bright, some colors are brighter or more intense than others, but still they’re very bright.
The pink LEDs look almost purple actually.
The green LEDs are very bright, so bright it hurts to look at them for along period of time really. These could be great to light up an area or just for decoration of course.
The red LEDs are the dimmest of all of the colors form RTGS I think, dim is relative though, they’re still nice and bright.
The blue LEDs are very bright, very intense and it’s hard to look at them for a long period of time. You could easily use these to light up an area.
These normally take six AA batteries, which is a lot, but they can run on just three, that just means the run time will be a shorter with less power. Six batteries should give you more than 48 hours of power for the LEDs, so six will give you about 24 hours. If you use the timer mode you can get more than 14 days of power with six batteries or about a week with only three batteries.
I have kids and I gave these to them, they love them, they just think they’re the greatest and they’re safe, no electric and they’re waterproof. They put them up in their room as some extra light at night time, sort of as a nightlight but not, more for extra light instead of turning the main overhead light on.
Conclusion
The RTGS micro LEDs are great for all sorts of things and since they’re weatherproof you can put them outside and not worry.
The addition of the timer is a great feature as you can truly set it and forget it. This a great feature around the holiday, you can set them up outside or inside, set the timer and don’t worry about them anymore after that.
They lights use six AA batteries but they can be run on only three, you just won’t have as much power time as you would with all six.
The micro LEDs themselves are very bright and tiny, but they are waterproof and the string they’re on is a wire that you can bend and shape as needed, around trees of on railings or whatever you can come up with.
For what you get and what they are I think they’re well worth the price and a great quality product overall.
I’ve had another set of these for almost five months now and the batteries still work and all the LEDs do as well, so I’d say they’re fairly well made.
