The Review

The case just comes packaged in a zipper style plastic bag or envelope like package with a label on it, nothing special but it works.

Inside of the package you’ll find the case already in the belt clip, the case is sort of two parts, the case itself and then the belt clip. You can remove the phone from the belt clip section and leave it on your belt. The case itself is actually two parts, a soft silicone case and then a hard outer shell for even more protection. Sadly there is no screen protector included with the case so you’ll have to buy one separately.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 is a decent phone actually, I was impressed by it for the price but like any phone it needs a good case and since this was a phone for my 14 year old son I needed something rugged and durable for maximum protection so after some searching I decided on this one from J&D.

The first half of the case is a silicone rubber which just stretches and fits over the phone, USB, bottom microphone and top audio port are open for access, the buttons are covered but the case has raised sections for them making it easier to press them with the case on. The only problem I noticed here is the secondary top microphone is completely covered by the silicone case.

The second half of the case is the hard plastic part that further protects the phone from damage as it’s a dual layer case. This part of the case just gets pushed onto the silicone case, it’s a tight fit but it goes on. The plastic part also has a stand built into it so you can prop the phone up on your desk or wherever.

The belt clip part of the case seems very rugged, it offers good protection for the phone and it has a felt like lining inside where the screen touches the case. The clip comes up over the edge of the phone when it’s in the belt clip part so as to stop it from sliding out. The main problem is that the actual belt clip part broke within a week, the plastic part that held the metal bar holding the two section together broke so it’s now useless as a belt clip phone holder. Luckily it broke while he was home so it all fell onto a carpeted floor and it didn’t happen while he was out somewhere and lost the phone.

Conclusion

The J&D rugged case isn’t bad overall but it’s far from perfect.

It doesn’t come with a screen protector, but the case itself is inexpensive.

For whatever reason the case covers the top microphone, but that can be easily fixed by cutting a hole in the silicone, but I shouldn’t have to do that.

The case does off decent protection overall, and the belt clip addition was nice to have until it broke in a about a week of using it.

I think I have to buy of new case for this phone now as this one just isn’t that good really. Sure he can continue using just the case part but that’s not the point here, I shouldn’t have broke in such a short amount of time.

Pros:
+Decent dual layer protection overall
+Built-in stand
+Inexpensive

Cons:
-No screen protector included
-Covers top microphone completely
-Belt clip broke in less than a week
